Dan

Hope you enjoy our music video. Sorry about the american spelling, my spell check kept messing up. Also my blogger is quite messy so i have labeled it in order, 1 being the start.

Thanks JACK

9) Shooting timeline and evaluation

19th January 2010

We started our filming today. We chose to film Shot 9 first as it was indoors and gave us a good chance to practice our filming technique. We used a tripod and Video camera and positioned it in the center of the room. I was quite surprised how difficult and how long everything took to set up. However we set the scene up, placing several bottles of "alcohol" around the room and got the actors into position.

4th February 2010
We started to capture back and began editing the first few sequences in our video.

12th February 2010
Me and Becca started to film the girls going out, this was going to be shot in Becca's bedroom.
however we did have a problem with some of the actors as they couldn't make it on time and so we had to use only 2 people instead. We then filmed the girls leaving the house when it was dark, but because the camera had no lights it was quite difficult to see what was going on. So we positioned a car with its head lights on, aiming at the girls leaving.

This was quite a good learning curve as we realized we couldn't do this for our entire music video so we had to do all our filming in the daylight. This did effect the videos continuity but i think overall it worked. We also used the experience of our first shoot to correct and prevent anything from going wrong.

16th 18th and 23rd of February
we had planned to film on these days, however due to bad weather conditions we were unable to film. However instead of wasting time we used those days to capture back and edit or footage. we found this quite useful as we then knew how much more we needed to film and if we had left anything out.

2nd of March
We drove to Brighton and filmed the majority of the film. This was when the boys left the house and began their journey to the clubs. This was the first time we had filmed in a open public place where there where many factors that we couldn't change. However once we captured back the footage i was really pleased by the way it looked. We tried to stick to our planned shooting script, however we found some of the shots to difficult to compose, such as the zooming in on the window and entering the room.

9th and 16th of March
We did most of our editing and realised that we still had quite a bit of filming to do. I did find editing quite hard as it took a while to get used to the different controls, but Becca seemed to master the controls after just a few turns. This did mean she end up doing the majority of the editing and in an ideal world we would each have equal turns, but toward the end we were pushed for time and Becca was the best and quickest at using the software.

23rd of March
We finished the rest of the filming today but because several of the female actors couldn't make the shoot we had to use Vicky and Nichole as stand in. At first i thought that this would effect the continuity of our video, but it turned out that it worked really well as they both new what to do and carried out the actions faultlessly.
We did try to film the girls entering a club however at that time they were not open, so we had to settle for a pub instead. We also had to compromise the ending as we didn't have enough people to film the closing shot. We then went back to our original idea of filming on the pier and have the main boy and girl walking of into the distance. Unfortunately we were not allowed to film on the actual pier and had to film the from outside in. Also the large no. of people on the pier made it difficult to get a clear shot. However we pursued an got some really good footage.
It did end up that we forgot to pay for parking tickets and ended up getting fined for 3 cars nearly cost £150, but it was all worth it to get the final footage for our video.

7) advert flat plan

This is one of my flat plan ideas. I used Franks signature marks (the lighting bolt) as the main feature of the advert. Also with the name of the artist at the top of the screen to help identify what the viewer was looking at. I placed the song title at the bottom of the screen using the same color scheme that i have used through out. The simple colors help to complement FrankMuisk minimalistic colour scheme, that he uses on some of his other albums.

This is my second flat plan for an advertisement. I have drawn this in landscape portfolio as it would be distributed in a postcard format, probably on card and handed out on the streets. This is simple a question mark to represent the "have you got a boyfriend?" song title. Also i placed several reviews of the CD on the advert to entice people to go out and buy it. However it is quite difficult to identify the artist when just glancing at it, which was why i didnt pick this idea.

10) music video

Our music video was created with a various different types of shots and camera angels.
I have broken down the video into sections and commented on the different skills used.

This is our opening shot. The camera zooms into the top right window and just before the music changes tempo we cut to the next shot about (7secs). We took a still photo and zoomed in using the software on the computer.

This is s shot of the boys getting up ready to leave, Becca managed to use the cutting and reversal tool to make us jump up and down, this worked really well and we timed it perfectly with the "choppy" bit of the music.

Here we zoom in onto the computer screen, we weren't able to to a tripod into such a small space, so we reseted the camera on our knee's to get a stable shot.

This is the boys leaving the house, here we pan from right to left, following the action as it happens. We weren't able to get a tripod for this part of filming so we rested the camera on Nichole's shoulders and pivoted the camera around.

For this shot, as the boys drive past, we had to use hand held techniques, but fortunately Vicky had some steady hands!.

This was the reversal shot of the shot above. In order to get a smooth moving shot we drove past the girls with the camera resting on the car door. It would have been good to use a track and dolly but we didn't have a budget that big to afford that sort of technology.
BELOW This is one of the shots we didn't use. This happened because we forgot the set the white balance and aperture, we also forgot to properly focus. However after we correct our mistake we got a really clear shot.

For this shot we asked 2 members of the public to stand outside of the pub to create a "busy" atmosphere, we would have preferred a club but none were open at that time.

This Long shot of the sea front was done by holding the camera on the car and trying to get a smooth steady shot, after several tries we eventually got it.

Overall i am very pleased with the finished product as we have all worked hard to accomplish the task. It cost more and took a lot longer than i expected and i hope my grade truly reflects the hard work my group and me have put into this project.

1) Research and Analysis

Collectively my group choose the song "Gotta Boyfriend" by Frank Musik. We chose this song because we liked the up beat tempo and the catchy lyrics, also we thought it would be an interesting piece of music to make a video for.
Target audience
The main demographics for this song are young adults from the ages of 15 up to 25, as this is the ages group who enjoy clubbing and going out. Also because our music video is mainly club themed and we show the "getting ready and going out" element of clubbing, we hope that the majority of our target audience can relate to our video and feel that it portrays the action accurately.

RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS

We researched many other music videos and came up with a few examples. "hellogoodbye, in your arms" and "Blackeyedpeas, i gotta feeling". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSD4vsh1zDA and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-KQ1tp_qOQ
I really liked the club scene in hellogoodbyes video and wanted to recreate something similar. Were "boy meets girl" scenario and they end up with each other. The style of clothing in the video is very simple yet effective. They are simply wearing brightly colored T-Shirts and jeans/shorts.
I also really liked the Blackeyedpeas Video where they use Uv paint to emphasise there faces. This video is very current and relates quite well to our own project. It works around narrative lyrics where the are getting ready for a party.
The camera work is mainly fast cutting mid shots with a few close up shots of there faces. Also at the beginning of their video the camera work gives the impression of being handheld whilst they show people walking around the streets.
We came up with several ideas for a music video, one being, filming in an actual club, however after discussing this with our teacher he steered us off the idea as we would need permission from the club and all of the people being filmed. Also trying to co-ordinate a large group of strange, excitable people would be to difficult.
Our next idea was to film in a large private location and ask several friends to act as the "clubbers". As i had an old stable that we could use this was a perfect idea, however we soon realised that in order to re-create an authentic club scene we would need several green screens and high tech recording equipment which just want viable on such a small budget.
We then settled on the idea of showing the "getting ready" and "journey" to the club. We liked this idea because we could still create incorporate several of our initial ideas into the video.

Here is a time line of ideas that we come up with.

Intro: 0-20 seconds
Establishing shot of two terraced houses, one light comes on.
Enlargement of lit window, silhouette of girls dancing.
Cut back to terraced houses, same shot as before, different light comes on.
Enlargement of this window, silhouette of boys socialising.

20-33 seconds
Highlight one boy and one girl, make it obvious to the audience they are going to be the main characters
Both boy and girl laughing at the same time, really quick cuts between frames of the two faces.

33-58
Mid shot from zoom out of close up.
Group of girls laughing, sitting on bed looking at laptop, straightening hair?
Zoom into girls laptop screen and out of the boys, carry on zooming out to get the boys room shown.
Shot of boys computer screen, you can see he is talking to a girl.
Girl says GTG XXX at the change of the beat, cut.

58-1.39
Girls come running out of the house and see the bus approaching, scream, panic, giggle.
Stop the bus and get on.
Bus drives out of the shot and leaves the house and no one there.
Main boy gestures to go out, get up and leave.
Lyrics - 'I go to clubs' show a shot of Brighton clubs.
Shot of outside of house, see the boys leave and bundle into their car, drive off.
Boys drive past Brighton Pavillion (establishing shot).
Shot of girls on bus, Brighton Pavillion passing by in the background.
Girls are drinking and messing around.

1.40-2.04
CCTV footage of girls on the bus, black and white as if you are looking through the CCTV camera.
Girls get off the bus and see the boys drive past.
Main boy stares at main girl, possibly slow motion.
Reverse shot of girls staring back at him, already showing an interest.

2.05- end
Girls are standing outside the club
boys see the girls by the club, and park up.
they rush over to meet the girls, they turn the corner only to find the main girl "kissing" her boyfriend!.
boys look disappointed and walk away.......

LYRICS

Boyfriend
B b boyfriend
Boyfriend boyfriend
Boyfriend

So you gotta gotta boy right here
Have you got a boyfriend out there
Cos I know we could maybe,
we could share But I don't think that's very, very fair
It's so more hard when I'm not right here with you

You make me do things, I don't want to do
You call me in and I know there's so much more
Why do you pick me up to kick me to the floor

So you got a boyfriend right here
Have you got a boyfriend out there
Cos I know maybe we could maybe,
we could share But I don't think that's very, very fair

I go to clubs You go to clubs to
But my friends tell me that I don't have a clue
So you can give me one the next time I'm out
So Iv got something to scream and shout like

So you got a boyfriend right here
Have you got a boyfriend out there
I know maybe we could, we could share
But I don't think that's very, very fair

So you got a boyfriend right here
Have you got a boyfriend out there
I know maybe we could, we could share
But I don't think that's very, very fair

We could share, aiirrr, aiirrr
Now I wonder, why this way
I don't know where you really strayed and
your empty touch Fractures all of my skin

How happy I could be with the one without you in
So you got a boyfriend right here
Have you got a boyfriend out there
I know maybe we could, we could share
But I don't think that's very, very fair
Gotta boyfriend right here

Have you got a boyfriend out there
So you got a boyfriend right here
Have you got a boyfriend out there

8) Advert

This is my final and finished advert. This is a very simple yet highly effective. It also complements the Light/Dark side of the album which helps to create a link between the two. The Black background with white writing makes the poster intriguing. Seeing as an advert is meant to publicize the product and get everyone talking about it, i thought i could use the number element (mentioned earlier) from the album cover. As this would create public awareness and be a talking point for my product. The white square box helps to focus the readers attention on numbers in the middle of the page, and if they wanted to know more i placed two small text boxes at the bottom of the page with more information.
